Shopify competitor pricing checklist

Check margin risk before matching a competitor price.

A lower competitor price is useful evidence, not an automatic instruction. Use this checklist before repricing a Shopify product so discounts, shipping, fees, stock status, and margin floors stay visible.

Forward this to a merchant who checks competitor prices manually.

This resource is for Shopify agencies, operators, and publishers who need a concise checklist they can share without making an App Store review request.

Before matching a competitor's lower price, check whether the product is truly comparable, whether the lower price is temporary, and whether the new price would stay above the real margin floor after fees, fulfillment, discounts, and returns.
Agency forward

Useful for a Shopify merchant who manually checks competitor prices and wants a review-first process before changing product prices.

Japanese merchant forward

競合価格を見てすぐ値下げする前に、商品条件、送料、為替、短期セール、最低粗利ラインを確認するためのShopify向けチェックリストです。

15-second forward: useful for a Shopify merchant who manually checks competitor prices and wants a review-first process before changing product prices.

30-second forward: send this to a merchant before they match a competitor's lower price so they can check comparability, landed cost, temporary-sale signals, and margin floor first.

This is a merchant workflow resource, not a Shopify App Store review request.

Tracked App Store context: partner_forward / merchant_forward_block

The six checks that prevent a price war.

These are the checks a merchant should complete before matching a lower price or accepting an automated pricing recommendation.

1. Product comparability

Match model, variant, pack size, condition, warranty, bundle contents, and seller trust level.

2. Full landed cost

Include product cost, payment fees, shipping subsidy, return risk, marketplace fees, and coupons.

3. Minimum margin floor

Write down the lowest safe sell price before reviewing competitor evidence.

4. Temporary sale detection

Check whether the competitor price is a flash sale, clearance event, stockout, or regional promotion.

5. Change-size limit

Cap the maximum price change so one bad comparison cannot move a large part of the catalog.

6. Approval evidence

Keep a visible record of the observed competitor price and the reason the change was accepted or rejected.

Try one price match before changing the catalog.

The free calculator lets a merchant test one product with current price, estimated cost, competitor price, target margin, and optional channel fee. It then shows the catalog workload created by recurring checks across SKUs, competitors, and review frequency.

One product takes a few seconds to check manually. Across a catalog, competitor checks can become a recurring review queue. Use the calculator to make that workload visible before deciding whether ongoing monitoring should move into a review-first Shopify workflow.

A safer workflow for Shopify teams.

The goal is not to avoid competitor prices. The goal is to make the decision slower where margin risk is high and faster where evidence is clear.

Step 1

Watch

Track the competitor products that actually influence your buyer, not every lookalike product online.

Step 2

Score

Compare observed prices against your margin floor and the reliability of the match.

Step 3

Review

Use manual approval for new rules, high-value products, and changes outside your usual range.

Step 4

Automate carefully

Only automate after the rule has survived real examples and has explicit max-change limits.

OmMarginshield is a Shopify app for competitor price monitoring with margin guardrails and manual approval by default. It is intended for merchants who want pricing evidence without racing competitors to the bottom.
